From Vienna to Lužice

My grandmother turned 94 this year. I love her. She is and always was stubborn. But I guess this stubbornness gives here the energy to live. She also has a longing to be with people which can never be fully satisfied. When you ask her about her life she normally tells you, she was on her own a long time, that she lost her parents when she was 16. Her husband was gone during the war while she was still so young. She lost an eye when she was around 17. I always get somehow this image that she was really on her own big parts of her life. Continue reading “From Vienna to Lužice”

Strange Airlines

Maybe as an European I’m spoiled, but I’m always surprised how unwelcome you can feel on a plane. It is unpleasant that on a five hour flight you don’t get any food, but you can prepare for that. But why stewardesses or pilots don’t manage to greet you when entering. All of them just look bored or angry, they can’t take their hands out of their pockets and just run around doing random things, so they are not bothered. On my last flight with United I also overheard a stewardess planning her sick leave because her next schedule was to cumbersome. Where does all this motivation come from? Well, I’m looking forward again to the service of Lufthansa & Co.

Sunrise at LAX

After a five hour flight from Kahului to Los Angeles, I’m now up for a long wait (10 hours) here at LAX. The sun is currently coming up and I miss Maui. The last three weeks have been wonderful … full of finding a new home, meeting so many great people, coming up with ideas for the future, enjoying the beautiful weather, doing fun stuff, … looking forward to come back in May 😉

Thanks Aundrea!

Maui Mountains

Well, after 24 or more hours on airports and planes, it takes a while to take things in. So I thought it was really cool waking up in the morning, going to the grocery store with Cairo and Tayelor and enjoying the view of Maui mountains.

On my way …

… to my new adventure – this time actually a really, really big one – I found a very helpful site to find your best seat on a plane: www.seatguru.com

The evening before I left the family came together and we had a wonderful dinner. Thanks to Lisi, Stefan and all the other people who made the farewell so cozy again.
