A special treat

For my birthday at the end of May I gave myself a special treat and went for a scenic flight. It was the first time in my life I had the pleasure to go on such a small plane, a Cessna 185D Skywagon with only 5 seats.

Jim a professional farmer from the north island and a very passionate pilot took me out for the tour. Starting from Takaka airport we flew northwest along the coast via Collingwood, then north over the Archway Islands, before we turned east and flew along the Farewell Spit, a 26 km sand spit going out into the ocean and protection Golden Bay from heavy sea. We then crossed over to Abel Tasman National Park and finished the round by going back via Takaka town and Pupu Springs to the airstrip.

With those perfect weather conditions it was a great first time and I definitely like to go back on such a plane in a not too distant future 😉
